www.greenzap.com seems to be a scam.

i read this in my friend's blog:
Quote:
The site has no SSL server configured. The registration is not done in an encrypted fashion. Now, for a site intending to do major financial transactions cleanly, an SSL server would be the BASE requirement for a secure transaction. No serious financial institution would start a serious site without SSL.
A whois of the domain reveals that they are using Domains by Proxy. Domains by Proxy is a service that people use when they want to hide information about themselves. Stand-up businesses do not use Domain by Proxy for registration.

The site's domain is registered with GoDaddy's shortest term possible as of records I read from a few days ago. This indicates that they don't plan to be in business long.

Some people are saying that their whois query returned a P.O. Box in a Ralph's Grocery store in La Jolla california and a phone number that matches a number of scam companies: jet99.com, cardglobal.com, and muzumah.com ... the same posts indicate that in the first days, the SSL portion of the site did work, and it was the same certificate as jet99.com's.

The site is appearently being started by a man named Damon Westmoreland. Westmoreland was one of the founders of the three sites that were listed above and is widely considered to be a scam artist.

shit, i already gave my info.

ACTUALLY, ive done some more reading.

it seems that this thing might actually be legit.

theres a news release on yahoo.com about it and a $25 bonus for opening a bank account makes sense.

anyone whos curious, register:
www.greenzap.com/chriskiley

if its not a scam, you get $25 in an online paypal like acct plus $5 for everyone else you refer with your link.

if it IS a scam... well, you might get some junk mail. i dont think identity theft can happen on this much of a grand scale.

i personally am going to take the chance and get as many people to register as possible.

okay.
ah.
so the idea of strangers having your bank account information is really worth twenty-five dollars to you?
and screwing your friends is worth five dollars?

hey, maybe you don't realize this, but if people steal from you, you don't tend to get the stolen goods back.
even if you can prove that they stole it from you (ask anyone who's ever had their house broken into) – especially if the theft in question is of money, and on a large scale like this, where you opt-in willingly (that's why we have the phone fraud psa, folks – it's not just elderly people who are dumb about giving out their info).
if anything, you'll get ten bucks from a class action lawsuit in about two years, provided that the single-scumbag-in-basement-type who usually mastermind this kind of thing doesn't file for bankruptcy or leave the country first (if they aren't already outside the US in the first place).

let's even assume.
for the sake of argument.
that this is not a scam.
if that is the case, it will still be around in six months, and you can get $25 then.
sort of like the freeipods.com crap – or hell, even ebay and paypal in their days.

but seriously.
the slim chance that this might be a scam should be enough to ward off any half-wit from trying it.
"hey guys, i found this bottle of pills in the street! could be ecstasy, could be rat poison! i personally am going to take the chance and get as many people to take them as possible."

although i guess if getting $25 is worth that kind of risk to you, there's a good chance that your bank account information won't be particularly useful to anyone who tries to withdraw its contents, or lack thereof.

moral of the story: don't take pills you find in the street. procure pills from trusted drug dealers only.

found on a random message board after i google'd green zap

Quote:
I hope this is where I can put this good INFO
Green Zap wants you to believe that it's going to be the next PayPal. They want you to believe that they're backed by Visa. They want you to believe that Green Zap will be honored by eBay, online casinos, credit card companies, and every online vendor all over the world.
Let's use a bit of common sense, shall we?
If they're backed by big money and Visa, why not just advertise on TV, newspapers, and radio? Why the multi-level marketing bull****?
You sign up for Green Zap. They put $25 in your account. You post your promo code, and the next person signs up. That person gets $25, and you get a referral fee.....in your Green Zap account. Then that person posts his promo code.....and on and on and on ad nauseum.
Say 1 million people sign up through individual referrals and/or those umpteen Green Zap "affiliate" websites that have sprung up overnight. That's $25 MILLION dollars Green Zap is supposedly shelling out, and that doesn't even add on the referral fees. If Green Zap were legitimate, and had $25 mil....they wouldn't be resorting to MLM marketing.
Beyond that...There is NO gurantee any online vendor would accept Green Zap as a payment option. You pre-registrants haven't been told how many referrals you need in order to cash out your "free" money. And, how are you to receive this money? If no online vendor allows the use of Green Zap, your money ain't actually money. AND.....if the only way Green Zap says it will get you your money is to go through a banking account.....then you have to trust your account info to a scam outfit.....opening yourself up to theft.

Want proof that this is a scam? Green Zap is the brainchild of Damon Westmoreland, a convicted felon and con artist. Do a Google search on some of his other projects.....Jet99......ThePayLine....MyPaySystems ....Mazulah.......Caruba International.....MLM schemes that ripped off people's bank accounts and left a lot of people with nothing.
